What’s the recommended screen time for kids aged 4-8 years old

  • For kids aged between 4 and 5 years old, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) maximum screen time recommendation is up to 1 hour a day of ‘high-quality educational programming’. The exception to this is video chatting with family members.
  • For children aged 5 and over, the AAP recommends setting consistent limits and boundaries for screen time.
  • In this digital age, it’s likely that even young ones will need screens and devices to aid their educational learning. However, screen time shouldn’t replace or interfere with the time that kids need for sleeping, eating, playing, studying, and social interactions with family and friends.
