The smartphone has reshaped our daily lives. It is so ubiquitous that for many young people today it is a necessary part of fitting in with the crowd.
Perhaps your child has been lobbying you relentlessly for a smartphone and you decided to give them one. The decision is as significant as handing over the car keys for the first time.
But handing over the smartphone is not the end of the story. It brings with it free access to the Internet. Now you have to show your child how to use the phone safely and responsibly AND keep an eye on how they are managing it.
It is imperative as a parent to know how to help your child BEFORE they enter secondary education.
Because as Anne Longfield, the Children’s Commissioner for England, noted in her report "pupils are not being adequately prepared for the emotional challenges that social media presents as they move to senior school."
